Dear Reader(s):
Perhaps you have recently finished an enjoyable book and wish
to find one of its equal, or you’ve recently read a terrible
book and wish to redeem it with one spectacular enough to make
up for the literary disappointment you have experienced—like
a decadent slice of cheesecake after a ruined meal. Maybe you have
made an inner vow to finish reading all the books in your home
library before purchasing another; and while this seems a resourceful
and noble plan, every book lover knows that such a rule warrants
a restraint that is absolutely unnatural and borderlines self hatred.
Every week the Book Corner is stocked with new titles. Despite
the newness of their arrival, the titles themselves may include
a variety of historical and classical themes. A fairly recent project
has been the addition of a Southern Literature section. This new
selection includes books of the Southern Classics Series—some
novels, farm journals, biographies and historical accounts of life
in the great South.
Whether you were born and raised in Kentucky or have recently
moved to the area, you are sure to find amusement and charm in
the characters and settings created with this land and culture
in mind.
When next you have the chance to stop in at the Book Corner, be
sure to peruse the books that make you feel most at home. The summer
time begs for the reading of Southern literature. You have an appointment
on the front porch: just you and your new book. Call me a romantic
if you wish but at this moment, I can think of nothing else more
compelling.
I hope to meet you soon,
Sarah Fricks
