Frequently Asked Questions - University Bill

What is University Billing?
University Billing allows you to apply your course material purchases to your University Bill. You pay when you pay your University Bill. This is currently available at the beginning of Spring and Fall terms. Summer term does not have this option available.

How do I use my University Bill to pay for my books?
It is MANDATORY that you have your University issued ID card to use University Billing and you will need to choose a cashier that accepts University Billing (marked with signs). Tell the cashier that you would like to use University Billing. It’s that easy!

When will I have to pay for my books?
Please visit http://www.wku.edu/bursar/ and click on Fee Payment Due Dates.
NOTE: The payment schedule is based on date of class registration. Bookstore purchases added after your initial bill will be reflected on a subsequent bill and due at a later date.

Why does the transaction have to be $100.00 or more?
This is a restriction given to us by the administration to cut down on the number of transactions due to the amount of time and paperwork required to process a University Bill purchase.

When can I use University Billing to pay for my books?
University Billing is available two weeks before Spring and Fall terms begin and ends after the first two weeks of classes. This allows a 4 week window to purchase your course materials.

Why can’t I make purchases to my University Bill during the rest of the semester?
University Bill is set in place to accommodate back-to-school purchases. This payment option is only available during the beginning of Spring and Fall terms.

Frequently Asked Questions - Textbook Reservations

Why should I reserve my textbooks with the University Bookstore?
Textbook reservation is the hassle-free approach to getting textbooks.

Here’s a few reasons why thousands of students have made our program their number one textbook-option.

  • It’s a free service to all WKU students.

  • You avoid long lines during first week of classes.

  • You maximize chance of getting quality used textbooks and saving money.

  • You can choose a convenient pick-up location.

  • Best of all, you get a FREE T-shirt. That’s right, return your textbook reservation box during Sell-Back to receive
a FREE t-shirt. Some recent t-shirts sold online for more than $8,000. -> ok… that’s a lie, but the shirt is cool.

How does this program work?
You have to enroll in the Textbook Reservation Program, easily done via your TopNet account. A few weeks before classes start we will print your class schedule and pull your course materials. They are then boxed and billed using University Billing. All you have to do is pick them up! Once enrolled, you will remain enrolled unless you choose to ‘opt out’!

What if I don’t want to reserve my textbooks anymore?
You can easily ‘opt out’ through TopNet if you no longer want to be enrolled in this program.

What is the deadline for reserving textbooks?
The deadline for Fall textbook reservation is July 31. The deadline for Spring textbook registration is December 31. Once enrolled, you will remain enrolled unless you choose to ‘opt out’.

I changed my class schedule since I reserved my books, will that be a problem?
For Fall Textbook Reservations, we use your class schedule as it exists on August 1st. For Spring Textbook Reservation, we use your class schedule as it exists on January 1st.

When will my textbook reservation be ready to pick up?
Your reservation may be picked up starting the week before classes begin until the end of the first week of classes. It is MANDATORY for you to have your University issued ID card. Any reservation not picked up will be reshelved and a $20 restock fee applied to your University Bill.

When is the best time to pick up my textbook reservation?
The week before classes start, before 10:30 a.m. and after 2:30 p.m. are the best times. Lunch time is absolutely the worst time ever, unless you just like to stand in line.

What happens if I change my schedule after I pick up my books?
Here’s the first rule of buying anything. KEEP YOUR RECEIPT. Remember this. With a receipt any exchange/refund is possible – low hassle. Hassle factor goes up considerably without a receipt.

What will happen if I don't pick up my reservation?
Your books will be reshelved and refunded to your University Bill. However, you will also be charged a $20 restocking fee. (That’s $20 for not paying attention…do we have your attention now?)

Why do I have to pay a restocking fee?
Aside from the fact that someone else wanted the used book that was boxed up for you, our having to pull them in the first place and reshelve them in the second place, $20 is a small price to pay for not paying attention. Traffic accidents are way more pricey. Consider it a bargain and a lesson all rolled into one.

I received a bill from WKU for this semester, but it doesn't list anything from the bookstore. Why?
We aren't able to process all of the textbook reservations before the bills go out for the semester. You should keep checking your account on TopNet for your bookstore purchase amount.
