One of our main goals
at the University Bookstore is to assist the students of WKU in
the pursuit of higher education. One way in which we achieve this
is by improving the relations between the University Bookstore
and the academia of WKU. With the assistance of faculty members
who turn in their textbook requests on-time, we are able to maintain
low costs on textbooks and insure that we obtain as many used copies
as possible. To further this effort, the University Bookstore has
established a new scholarship program to recognize those Academic
Departments on campus that have worked well with the Bookstore,
and have a high percentage of on-time requests. The scholarship
has aptly been named the OTTR (On Time Textbook Request) Scholarship.
The earlier textbook requests are submitted to the bookstore, the
more able we are to handle any complications that may arise, such
as new edition information or out of print titles. Early requests
also allow us to order textbooks at a lower cost from publishers
and raise the buyback value for students at the end of each semester.
With the university working as one, we can meet the goal of increasing
student learning by having textbooks on-hand before classes begin,
at prices students can afford.
For the past two semesters the University Bookstore has chosen
one academic department to receive a $250 scholarship in order
to reward outstanding students in their program. The first recipient
was the EDAD department where associate professor Dr. Jeanne Fiene
and faculty divided the scholarship. Our second recipient was the
CNS department, headed by Dr. Aaron Hughey.
The University Bookstore decided to change the name of the scholarship
to the Dr. Bill Greenwalt OTTR Scholarship.
Dr. Greenwalt passed away a few years ago and the name change is
to honor his on-time textbook requests. He was always a strong
supporter
of the bookstore and will be remembered fondly.
